SEO

Page titles, descriptions, sharing images and your sitemap.

Vortex templates come with the technical SEO already set up: page titles, descriptions, social sharing tags, a sitemap and a robots file. Your job is to fill in the words.

Page titles and descriptions

Open src/config/seo.ts. The pageSeo list has one entry for each main page:

src/config/seo.ts
facials: { title: "Facials — Professional Skincare Facials", description: "Professional facials shaped by a skin consultation, from a radiance facial to a calming express treatment.", path: "/facials",},
  • title: shown in the browser tab and as the blue link in Google. Aim for 50–60 characters. Your business name is added after it automatically, for example “Facials — Professional Skincare Facials | Maison Fleur”. The home page title is used exactly as written.
  • description: the short text under the link in Google. Aim for 140–160 characters that make people want to click.
  • path: the page address. Only change it if you rename the page folder.

Detail pages (single services, team members, articles) build their titles from the content list, and services have their own seoDescription in the data file.

Set your website address

Search engines need your real address for links, the sitemap and sharing previews. Set NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URL where you host your website (for example https://www.your-domain.com), or change the fallback in src/config/site.ts. See Business details.

Social sharing previews

Each page can have its own preview image. Pages pass an image to pageMetadata:

src/app/facials/page.tsx
export const metadata = pageMetadata("facials", images.facialCandlelight);

Change the image name to any image from src/config/assets.ts. Pages without an image use the default ogImage (see Logo & favicon).

Sitemap and robots file

These are created automatically, and include new pages once they are in seo.ts:

  • /sitemap.xml: a list of all your pages for search engines
  • /robots.txt: tells search engines they may visit your site, and where the sitemap is

Tell Google about your site

  1. Open Google Search Console

Go to search.google.com/search-console and add your website. Google explains how to verify that you own it.

  2. Submit your sitemap

In Sitemaps, enter sitemap.xml and click Submit.
